Alchemy of Happiness

“A calm mind brings inner strength.” – Is happiness merely a basic mental state?

Imagine you are holding a bucket full of water, sand, and sediment. Imagine you are constantly shaking it. The water appears cloudy. Now
imagine you stop shaking the bucket and simply place it on the ground. The water settles. After a while, the dissolved particles sink to the bottom, and the water becomes clear.

In this image, we see the relationship between a restless, clouded mind and an alert and relaxed one. In meditation, we temporarily cease to agitate the mind, just as we stop shaking the bucket. Eventually, it becomes calm and clear, just as the water appears calm and clear. A calm and clear mind possesses an important quality that this analogy overlooks: happiness. In a calm and clear mind, happiness arises quite naturally. Joy awakens spontaneously and naturally! Our actions, then based on this joy, automatically create happier and more successful outcomes in life. Our own happiness doesn’t have to remain a dream; it’s within our power.

Happiness isn’t something we should seek in the future. Happiness is something we experience and cultivate in the present. It’s a continuous process of consciously living, refining our choices, and embracing change. This also means making decisions and bearing the consequences with dignity.

If we wish for everything to stay the same, nothing new can flourish. The sea changes with every wind, with every high tide, with every low tide. The whitecaps of the waves are sometimes larger, sometimes smaller, but the water always remains the same. We cannot view happiness as a mere product of chance. Nor is it enough to wish for happiness like winning the lottery.

It is therefore not simply about an unprecedented state of happiness, but about the tangible possibility of constantly seizing the opportunity and aligning one’s entire life concept with happiness through refinement.

Alchemy also means the transformation of elements. The alchemy of happiness is the ability to create reality from ideas, dreams, and visions, using the elements and resources available to us.

Happiness forms the basis for success, not the other way around. When someone increases their experience of positivity in life, the brain receives a significant boost in happiness. This positive experience creates a lasting happiness advantage, significantly improving and positively stimulating brain function compared to negative or neutral impressions, as neurology has now recognized. Intelligence increases, creativity is enhanced, and energy potential is unleashed.

We can’t force happiness. We mustn’t make happiness dependent on achieving our goals. Happiness isn’t something you chase; it’s something you allow to happen , and then it flourishes . It’s not a state you try to catch like a butterfly . Happiness is always there, just as the stars always shine, even in daylight . They are always there. So too is happiness always there—in your life, in your mind, at all times. When you enter your flow of happiness, you see happiness everywhere.
